Are Pillow Protectors The Same As Pillow Cases?

Knowing the difference between pillow protectors and pillow cases!

A common misconception when it comes to pillows is that a pillowcase and a pillow protector are in fact the same thing, however, this is incorrect, they are two separate components which should be used together to ensure total pillow protection.

What is a pillowcase?

A pillowcase is the conventional cover that is usually part of a duvet set, so it matches the look of the rest of your bed, this provides a basic barrier of protection to your pillow and is the first layer of defence. and is usually a soft fibre, primarily cotton to allow for a soft sleeping surface.

Cotton is commonly used for the pillowcases for its natural thermoregulating properties as it can absorb moisture and disperse helping your body maintain optimum temperature for a more relaxing night’s sleep.

What is a pillow protector?

A pillow protector plays the same role as a mattress protector would, this is the ultimate line of defence against pillow yellowing, stains, moisture, or any other mishaps as they normally encase your entire pillow and are machine washable.

Pillow protectors are usually just a plain white cover, which will not look as aesthetically pleasing as a pillow case, which is another reason why they can work great being used together, as you get dual protection without compromising style.

Summary

In conclusion, pillow protectors and pillow cases can play the same role, which is to protect your pillow, there is an increased benefit to using both, as this provides a much larger range of protection for your pillow which ensures it has a much longer life span.
